Head of Investments
Overview
An established single family office in New York, managing a multi-billion dollar, globally diversified portfolio for an ultra-high-net-worth family, is entering a new phase of institutionalisation across its investment platform. This is a principal-facing appointment for a strategist operator who will build and lead a lean internal team, direct external managers and advisors, and act as the family’s most trusted voice on capital allocation.
Expectations
- Design and lead the family’s overall investment strategy and asset allocation framework alongside the principal(s)
- Source, evaluate, and underwrite direct and co-investment opportunities across private equity, venture, real estate, and credit
- Select and manage external managers, GPs, and advisors, including ongoing due diligence
- Build and mentor an internal investment team with institutional-grade process and reporting discipline
- Chair or support the investment committee; prepare board-level materials and risk reporting
- Oversee liquidity planning and coordinate with finance, tax, and legal functions
- Represent the family discreetly in relationships with banks, funds, and co-investment partners
- Lead on ESG or values-aligned mandates where relevant
Requirements
- 12–20+ years’ investment experience spanning institutional asset management and direct/principal investing
- Demonstrable track record leading a multi-asset-class portfolio and managing external manager relationships at scale
- Single or multi-family office experience strongly preferred; institutional backgrounds with strong direct deal exposure also considered
- Proven people leadership and team-building ability
- Exceptional judgement and discretion operating close to a private family
- Strong academic credentials; CFA, CAIA, or equivalent an advantage
- Impeccable references and a demonstrated ability to maintain absolute confidentiality
